Rationale:

Economic growth fueled by globalization is welcome as a means to create wealth and add value to resources; the dynamics though has raised concerns as to whether we should continue to develop at all costs. There is a growing realization that the type and pace of growth we have witnessed over the last three decades has been anything but inclusive. No less than UN has called institutions to tackle problems related to social exclusion, poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation. The aim is to ensure that more people participate in sharing the benefits of growth and resources be used in a sustainable manner to safeguard the future of current generation and future generation as well.

DLSU-D's response to this challenge is the Cavite Development Research Program (CDRP), a 50-year research program designed to promote evidenced based policy for the development efforts in Cavite province. But the issues that confront the Province of Cavite resonate nationally and in most parts of the world. A good number of development experts are now calling countries to tap into their local knowledge and capabilities; and promote researches that have social dimensions.

The research congress will reflect these issues in the wake of demands for sustainable and inclusive growth. This call for sustainability and inclusivity is accompanied by a changing landscape in education as the Philippines introduce the K to 12 educational system.

In this context, the congress will constitute a valuable opportunity for students, researchers in public and private institutions to address the crucial issues. Moreover, the gathering is a chance for practitioners involved in development issues that impact society to exchange information.

The congress focuses on 5 main themes:

1. Business

2. History, Culture and Arts

3. Engineering and Technology

4. Education and Communications; and

5. Science and Health

There will be 3 plenary sessions to be followed by parallel sessions during the 3 full-day congress. Parallel sessions will be structured to provide coherent series of topics.

De La Salle University-Dasmarinas Research Week is on November 18-20, 2013.
